The treatment works by delivering concentrated ultrasound energy to the deep foundation layers of the skin especially the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) without disrupting or damaging the surface of the skin. It focuses and meets at a specific point at a specific depth under the skin. At this meeting point and depth, the temperature is heated to ~65°C, creating both spaced ‘wounds’ and cellular friction – which in turn promotes healing, immediately contracts collagen and stimulates a rapid production. There will be collagen remodeling and collagen production. Over the next 90-180 days, the wound-healing response stimulates long-term tissue and leads to further lifting.
- Firmer skin and lessened laxity
- Smoothened skin texture
- Non-surgical, no downtime
The procedure typically requires about a half hour.
First, our therapist will help you remove any residual makeup and cleanse your face properly to ensure no other agents are on your skin before the treatment.
Next, our doctor will do some grid marking on your face with a white face chalk, for clear indication of the handpiece movement.
Ultrasound gel will then be applied to your skin. Different handpieces will then be used to deliver ultrasound energy beneath the skin at different levels. Some patients may feel the energy at this point. Do not worry, our doctor will work with you to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
There may be slight redness for up to a few hours following the treatment, and a small percentage of patients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
Q: How is HIFU different?
HIFU is currently the only non-invasive medical ultrasound procedure that allows the deepest penetration of energy, up to 4.5mm, for skin lifting and tightening, compared to lasers that do not penetrate that deeply.
Q: How long do the results last?
Usually, each procedure should last for 12 months. Patients with a larger degree of sagging skin usually can benefit from a treatment once every 6 months.
Q: Is this treatment safe?
HIFU is safe for all skin types. Any patient who has experienced some sagging of skin will benefit from this treatment. It is likely that if your sagging is severe, you may need a repeat treatment for optimal results.
